Cinema in the River
Now in its fourth year, Cinema in the River will again showcase the
best new work of Territory filmmakers, including CAAMA films,
local youth work, new shorts from the Top End and a selection the
NT’s Fist Full of Films initiative on its opening night. On Saturday
night join screen composer Bruce Rowland who will introduce our
feature film The Man from Snowy River and celebrate the Australian
Film Institute’s 50th birthday with a free sausage sizzle and some
cracking surprises!
Cinema in the River is planned for Friday October 24th and Saturday October 25th. It will take place in the Todd River just north of the footbridge. Audiences will be seated on the grassy slopes of the river bank near the Totem Theatre and the screen will be attached to a shipping container.

Friday October 24th will be a night of ‘New Black Cinema’ featuring works by CAAMA Productions, the Top End ‘Yarning Up’ series produced by TEABBA, the Nhama! Short films from the Mulka Project in Northeast Arnhemland, and one of the best films from this year’s Message Sticks festival (a story set in the N.T. and made by a NSW Indigenous filmmaker). Cinema in the River
Saturday October 25th will feature a free family BBQ before a screening of the Australian classic ‘Man From Snowy River’ to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Australian Film Institute. This screening will be introduced by the screen composer Bruce Rowland. An environmental conservation documentary about the Snowy River area will also be played, providing audiences with a contemporary understanding of the country depicted in the feature film. It is also hoped that this event will also include a live horse performance and a whip cracking demonstration (TBC).Where Todd River (near Totem Theatre)
